Koraunui Stokes Valley Community Hub

Tirohia atu ki ngā whetū o Matariki , ki te pukapuka hou hoki i te reo Māori. / Look to the stars of Matariki, also to a new book in Māori.

Koraunui Stokes Valley Community Hub is hosting the book launch of Arapū Toi, a new children’s book based on the Māori alphabet featuring poems in te reo Māori by writer and storyteller Moira Wairama with artwork by Kāpiti artist Austin Whincup.

As we prepare to celebrate the appearance of Matariki stars in the night sky, so is Kia Mau Festival celebrating the appearance of Arapū Toi , a new book and its accompanying frieze i te reo Māori published by Baggage Books and BasicallyDifferent.

To celebrate both the new book and Matariki there will be a number of performances for tamariki from local kōhanga reo and kura reo rua classes throughout the day, culminating with the official book launch that evening. The Children’s Bookshop staff from Kilbirine will be at the launch selling copies of both the new book and a selection of other books written by Moira Wairama.
