NICHOLAS REID
Nicholas Reid is a 25 years old graphic designer that graduated this year, with a Bachelor of design innovation, majoring in communication design. I am of proud Samoan descent, which I am starting to explore, and incorporate into my graphic design work. Prior to studying design, I served in the Royal New Zealand Navy for four years, where I made many great memories.
Before pursuing my design education, I had the honour of serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy for a remarkable four-year period. This invaluable experience allowed me to create cherished memories and forge strong bonds with my fellow servicemen. Through my time in the Navy, I developed a deep sense of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, traits that continue to shape my approach to design.
Now, armed with a diverse set of skills and a newfound appreciation for my cultural roots, I am committed to crafting visually captivating and meaningful designs that honour my Samoan heritage.
As I embark on this creative journey, I am excited to push the boundaries of graphic design, experimenting with various mediums, styles, and technologies. By continuously expanding my skill set and embracing new artistic influences, I am dedicated to creating innovative and impactful designs that captivate and inspire.
I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead, as I strive to make a meaningful contribution to the world of graphic design.

I am a Multidisciplinary Artist originally from Turanganui-a-kiwa and have spent the last 20 years residing in Te Whanganui-a-tara. I have always appreciated the vibrant, creative energy present in Pōneke, and can credit much of who I am as an Artist to this beautiful city.
I am honoured to be curating the Visual Arts programme this year for Kia Mau Festival, 6 – 17 June. My intention is to exhibit tangata whenua and tangata moana Artists, who I admire and who have a strong connection to Pōneke, to showcase their mahi toi within the city landscape we love and are inspired by. Pōneke will be humming during the Kia Mau Festival, with emerging and established Artists working in many different Artforms presented in participating locations around the city.
Advocating the energy we as Artists give back to this space and time. Kia Mau Festival is a special event where we as indigenous Artists of all disciplines can come together and celebrate each other.
